When This Medicine Should Not Be Used:

You should not receive this medicine if you have had an allergic reaction to Japanese encephalitis virus vaccine, thimerosal, or to mouse proteins.

How to Use This Medicine:

Injectable

  • Your doctor will prescribe your exact dose and tell you how often it should be given. This medicine is given as a shot under your skin.
  • A nurse or other trained health professional will give you this medicine.

Drugs and Foods to Avoid:

Ask your doctor or pharmacist before using any other medicine, including over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal products.

  • Do not drink alcohol while you are using this medicine. Do not drink large amounts of alcohol within 2 days of the vaccine shot.

Warnings While Using This Medicine:

  • Make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or breast feeding, or if you have any allergies.
  • Avoid traveling to foreign countries within 10 days of the vaccine shot.
  • To prevent mosquito bites, avoid outdoor activities and use insect repellents when you are outdoors during hot weather.
  • Make sure your doctor knows if you have received any vaccine shot in the last 7 days.

Possible Side Effects While Using This Medicine:

Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects:

  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Decrease in how much or how often you urinate.
  • Fever or chills.
  • Light-headedness or fainting.
  • Nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain.
  • Weakness of your arms or legs.
  • Yellowing of your skin or the white of your eyes.

If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor:

  • Dizziness or headache.
  • Muscle pain.
  • Pain, swelling, redness, or itching at the site where the vaccine shot was given.
  • Runny or stuffy nose.
  • Swelling of your joints.
